About Us

Why are you called The Frog Shop?

So many people ask us this question, and we love it when you ask!

The Frog Shop was created by two best friends, Corinne and Heidi. Between us, we have six kids ... all boys ranging in age from 3 to 21! Corinne's two year old, Clyde is nicknamed "Frog." One of Heidi's sons, Kyle, suggested we name the store, The Frog Shop in his honor. As for the other kids, George, Megan, Devon and Ian, you may see them popping in and out of the shop on occasion.

As you can imagine, it has been expensive for us to keep our kids clothed and fed. We love shopping at second hand stores -- Heidi calls it treasure hunting -- and we thought Merced was in desperate need of a children's consignment store ... you know, the kind of place where you can sell your old stuff and earn money toward new stuff you need. Thus, the idea for The Frog Shop was born!

The Frog Shop opened "officially" on July 1, 2009. Our original store had dark purple walls, and the only thing we could think to do with it was to turn it into an enchanted forest. Our friend Jen Toal, an artist from Modesto, painted beautiful swirly trees on the walls.

In February 2010, we moved into a brighter and more useable space across the street, where we are now. One of our first customers and new friends, an artist named Kristan Robinson, helped us to keep our enchanted forest boutique setting by painting a new tree mural in the new shop. (Kristan is also our resident artist at each Art Hop in 2010.) You can see the tree in the picture to the right. We call this our "mother tree" in honor of all our moms.
